About

Phoenicia Fire District is a group of three fire rescue companies serving the community of Shandaken, in Ulster County, New York.  M.F. Whitney Hose Co., Shandaken/Allaben Hose Co. and Onteora Hose Co.  Our diverse team of volunteer firefighters train relentlessly and strive to provide the highest level of fire suppression, incident response, vehicle extrication and rescue operations.  We are just like you.  Neighbors of all ages with families, jobs, school and active lifestyles who still find time to give back to our community.  We would love your help.  To find out if you have what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter, head over to our volunteering page by clicking volunteer on the banner at the top of the page.

History

The Phoenicia Fire Department was started on August 12th 1903. At this time Phoenicia was the only firehouse between Pine Hill and Shokan. The original firehouse was on Church Street. The current location which is on route 214 was originally a school house and was purchased for $1 from the board of education.
